Sheathing
It starts with the roof deck. Our estimators will always check to see what kind of existing sheathing you already have. If you need a portion of your sheathing replaced due to dry rot or sagging, we’ll take care of it during installation to ensure that your roof is securely fastened to sturdy material that will support the shingles to stand the test of time.
In some cases, we will need to replace the sheathing entirely (ex. cedar shake tear off/ existing ship lap sheathing). At this point we’ll provide you with the choice for your new roof sheathing: OSB (oriented strand board) or CDX plywood. While OSB is a less expensive option, CDX plywood has as superior ability to hold a fastener, which is why it’s our preferred sheathing material. Either option is available to you and we’ll make sure that’s clear for you on your estimate.
Underlayment(s)
We use a premium synthetic underlayment that serves as a waterproof barrier between your shingles and the roof deck. It serves as an added layer of protection from severe weather conditions that we experience in our area.
The lower the slope of the roof, the slower the water passes down your shingles to the gutters. In these low- slope cases, we take extra care to protect your roof with an ice and water shield barrier that provides yet another layer of protection to your home.
Ventilation
Proper roof ventilation is a critical element that helps protect several components of your home, including your new roof. As heat rises, roof ventilation allows excess heat and moisture to escape, protecting your home and roof from the inside out. We take care to ensure that the ventilation system on your roof is up to code and will provide sufficient air flow to protect your home from moisture damage.
